Detoxification can help you remove natural toxins from your body and help maintain a healthy weight. We are exposed to external toxins everyday, including pollutants, pesticides, and chemicals. Internally our bodies produce waste byproducts as a result of normal metabolic function. Although your body is designed to rid itself of these toxins naturally, it can become overburdened. A detoxification program offers your body additional support to expel natural toxins and minimize your weight, which is important to maintaining your health and vitality.
Toxins can contribute to a wide range of conditions:
Your toxic load is the amount of toxins that your body needs to process. By answering the following questions, you may gain some insight as to your current toxic load.
Yes No Do you or have you eaten processed foods?
Yes No Do you eat non-organic fruits and vegetables?
Yes No Do you eat meat and poultry that are not free range?
Yes No Do you consume genetically altered food?
Yes No Do you or have you ever used artificial sweeteners?
Yes No Do you drink soda?

If the majority of your answers are "yes", then it is likely that your diet contributes significantly to your toxic load. Beyond diet, many external toxins, such as perfumes, cleaners, and pollution, add to your load. Your health care professional can help you assess your toxic load.
A detoxification program can have a significant, positive effect on the biochemistry of the body while allowing natural toxins and byproducts of daily metabolism to be eliminated. By participating in a purification program, you may notice the following:
A detoxification program is not a diet. It is a program that helps you live a healthier life by purifying, nourishing, and maintaining a healthy body and weight.
Our detoxification program emphasizes supplements and whole foods, particularly fruits and vegetables, while limiting high-calorie, refined foods and saturated fats. Nourishing yourself with nutrient-rich foods will provide the complex combination of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants that are needed to protect the body and promote optimal health.

my experience with the purification program was a wonderful and eye opener. the first three days was the most challenging, but after getting through my coffee withdrawl it went great; i was sleeping better, less stress at work and had a lot more energy. in 21 days i lost 25lbs and i am feeling great. i have been adding some of my old food back into my eating habits and i’m finding out what my body does not like or need. some of my old favorite foods taste good at the time, but the next day i feel like i have a hangover. i’m finding out that if i have a very stress full day at work and i stress eat, i feel even worse. i’m trying very hard not to get back into my very bad habits of eating the wrong foods; it’s not easy, but with dr. heidi’s help and strong will power i know i can keep moving toward my goal of losing another 60- 70 lbs.
i would definately recommend that everyone try the purification program. if nothing else, it’s an eye opener to how your body reacts to different types foods.

i did the cleanse to rid my body of toxins. i felt like my diet was pretty clean before the cleanse, but i still drank caffeine and occasionally had sugar. the first few days of the cleanse were difficult because i missed my cup of coffee. soon though i had more energy and didn’t need the coffee. i felt steady and energetic throughout each day. i didn’t do the cleanse to lose weight, but i did see a shift in my body fat and overall i seemed leaner. the 21 days was a commitment and a learning experience. i’m so used to the foods i ate that i continue to do the same things even now. i’ve added some things back into my diet like the occasional piece of dark chocolate, but overall i’m eating very similar. before the cleanse, during the cleanse, and now i continue to keep refined and processed foods out of my diet because they have very little nutritional value and seem to bog me down. eating clean isn’t always simple, but it’s the easiest way to maintain your weight and feel great. once you get used to more food prep and cooking it becomes second nature and a new habit that is easy. i would recommend the cleanse to others, but only if they intended to continue in a similar lifestyle. i’ll do it again, probably twice a year, it’s like a reset button.

we went on the 21 day detox at the suggestion of dr. heidi. our hope was that we would lose a few pounds. it worked like magic! i lost 13 lbs and my husband lost 20lbs. the first few days were hard but we began feeling better and the weight started to drop off to the tune of about 1 lb per day at the start. my husband and i did this detox together so we could keep each other accountable along with support from dr. heidi. we think the most difficult thing to give up during this was coffee!!!. we added a lot of fruit and vegetables to our meals as recommended in the detox and we learned to snack on fruit and vegetables as well. we weren't sure about the shakes but got used to them quickly and they became a habit. the diet plan definitely changed the way that i cooked as i learned a healthier way to eat. my husband was participating in a boot camp exercise program prior to the detox and during. the exercise helped him to lose more weight and he is continuing to lose.
one big mistake that i made near the end of the 21 days was to order a chicken quesadilla at a local restaurant. i got sick on the way home. you have to add various food groups back into your diet one by one! we absolutely recommend this detox to anyone that wants to start a healthier style of eating and lose weight. all in all it was a very good experience. we are still eating many of the same foods now and maintaining our weight.
we are very glad that dr. heidi recommended this program and encouraged us to take the plunge. it has made life long changes for us.

i hate to admit it, but i was skeptical on the detox - i wanted to do it, but was hesitant because i love my coffee and i love my icecream. but the desire to get my body healthy and to see what it felt like to actually have no chemicals in my body outweighed any hesitation i was feeling. here's why - december, january and february were the worst 3 months of my life. in december i had passing out episodes which resulted in having to wear heart monitors, numerous trips to the emergency room and finally on christmas day when i had passed out yet again and was laying on the bathroom floor with every muscle in my body in complete spasm, not able to move and in excruciating pain, my husband called an ambulance and i spent christmas day in the emergency room. the doctors said all of my normal body chemistry - all the minerals that keep a body working were way out of whack. so i had to take vitamin supplements to get myself back into shape which took a solid month to get me back to full functionality.
you would think that spending christmas day in the er would be my breaking point and realization that something was not quite right and that i should be taking better care of myself, but no, it took one more really tough experience to bring me to the realization that i needed to get healthy and take care of myself. in late february, i had a miscarriage - i was 13 weeks pregnant, thought i was past that point of miscarriage and went in for a routine ob visit and they couldn't find the heartbeat. what?!? i couldn't believe this was happening to me. the baby was big enough where i actually had to be put into labor and delivery. i got to hold this tiny little boy that had all 10 fingers and all 10 toes, but was no longer with us. now that was my breaking point. they did an autoposy on our baby and took a bizillion blood draws from me to try to figure out what happened, but they found nothing. everything was absolutely normal. now that was the point in which my brain and heart decided that i needed to be more alive and take so much better care of my body so that i could truly live. life is precious and short and i needed to be able to live each day to its fullest.
that is when i found out about the detox and took full advantage of it. it wasn't easy, but i learned a whole new way of eating whole foods and eating healthy. the first week was tough, i felt sick, headaches and really tired - but no surprise since my body was getting rid of all the sugar, caffeiene and any other junk it had stored. by week 2, i was doing much better, really enjoying what i was eating and felt pretty good. the 3rd week, i had no desire for the sugar, i wanted my broccoli and brown rice! :) it is now about a month later and i am still eating the same with a few sugar hits in there, but i can tell immediately when i eat the sugar and i don't feel good. it's amazing and look forward to my healthy and more active life. i did add caffeine back in, but only a small amount compared to what i was drinking before. i still have a little bit of dairy, but when i do i know it because i get stuffed up and can feel mucous running down the back of my throat. so i know that my body can't handle dairy very well & sugar in very small amounts.
i would recommend that everyone detoxes to see what your body really can handle. this was a lifestyle change for me and my family. we all eat whole foods, very minimal processed foods and we put exercise back into our weekly routine. without the diet & exercise change, i can tell you that i would have had a very hard time coping and wouldn't have the love for life i have now. i definitely feel i can handle a lot more of what life throws at me without overreacting or being stressed. besides feeling better, i also lost weight between the detox and the exercise. diet change & exercise were definitely the most effective medicine i had!!! i can say that i am addicted to my work-outs (lgn bootcamp!) and my healthy diet. i'd rather not eat than eat something that isn't natural, whole foods, etc.

i wanted to do the cleanse to try and get back on track. we already eat healthy according to most, but had started snacking more over the winter, over the past year really. my husband and i wanted to get back on track, kind of a ‘fresh start’ with eating habits. i had looked at the cleanse programs at target or sam’s club, but most appeared to be laxative or chemical based, not plant or natural base. i had seen how dr. heidi and her husband had felt after the cleanse and it was enough to push us to just do it.
i was concerned about giving up the crunchy foods that i loved-cereals, popcorn, chips more than the caffeine and sweets. i did enjoy a mug of coffee in the morning, sometimes in the afternoon.
the first few days were tough-i didn’t think i had that much caffeine in the mornings, but i also did not realize how many sweets and snacks i was mindlessly eating in the afternoons when the kids would need a snack after school. the first few days i had a huge headache different than other headaches i have had in the past. by day 3 however, i was feeling better. by day 4 i had more energy in the mornings than i had when i was drinking coffee. we like to eat out, so that was hard a few weekends that we were on the cleanse, not going out and eating things like white rice or pizza. or just having the experience that we enjoy at a new restaurant. our kids did not participate in the cleanse, but they also noticed how much they enjoyed the rice and veggie dishes i would make. so much that they are still asking for them after we are off the cleanse.
since the cleanse, we have not added back in coffee or soda. when we eat out we are back to eating much smaller portions. when we eat at home, we are still eating more veggies than anything else. snacks are now fruit and veggies, or healthier versions if we do choose ‘crunchy’ food. at the start of the cleanse, we swore we would quit smoothies with protein powder for breakfast, but have continued that habit to the point of needing to order more powder from dr. heidi. we noticed just a smoothie with no protein powder did not fill you up as long when we ran out.
after taking 21 days and focusing on what you could eat, it changed the way i see things in the grocery store. i am more aware of how our culture uses food as a reward with our kids, how many things we may say yes to in the store to pacify our children, when it really isn’t the best for them. it has been easier to avoid the snacks and middle aisles (processed food) of the grocery store.
i would recommend this cleanse. it is a natural way to start new habits. after 21 days of work, i didn’t want to go back to the old habits. i could see changes in my body externally and internally. i felt better, less digestive issues because i was watching what i put in to my body. losing weight was a side benefit-i knew i had wanted to lose about 10 pounds, and this along with being diligent with exercise has made that happen. i have not gained any weight back after the cleanse, i have continued to lose a little each week.
